Right now, and for the entirety of the past 3 days I have been in Chicago, an enormous pollen drop is occuring from the cottonwood trees all throughout the city. Every neighborhood I have been has had so much white soft material dropping, it appears as if it is constantly snowing. The sidewalks are covered in blots of cotton, and when it is windy or when a storm kicks up, small tornados of cotton balls form and prance around the streets.
When combined with the long days, intense heat, and humidity of Chicago summer, a strange festive but dreamlike quality to the city emerges.
